Come to Leyton!

On Feburary 14th residents of Leyton ward, Waltham Forest, will have an opportunity to replace Labour's disgraced ex-Councillor Miranda Grell, in a by-election. The Liberal Democrat candidate (above right) is Winnie Smith, 17 years a local resident, with over 12 years experience working in housing and social services.

Leyton ward currently has two Liberal Democrat Councillors Bob Sullivan and Naheed Quershi and they are working hard to elect Winnie to join the team. They are campaigning to save local Post Offices from Labour's closure programme and to do something about dumping on Leyton's streets.

Leyton had 3 Liberal Democrat Councillors until 2006 when Councillor Barry Smith lost his seat by 28 votes as a result of a vicious gay-hate smear campaign by Grell. The team would then very much value your support and assistance.

If you'd like to show your support for Winnie please make some time between now and Valentine's day to help with the election. There is activity every day and you can find out more here or by contacting Bob here.

Great post Andy!
Was out on the streets in Leyton yesterday, and the most memorable comment from a woman was: 'I'm defintley voting for Winnie, I had Labour round here earlier, and I just laughed in their faces'
Made me wonder what they are saying on the doorstep- 'vote for us, we're honest'
